Car Audio Systems Bigger Is Better?

Are Big Car Speakers Better?

If you are planning to purchase car speakers, there are things you need to know in order to make the best choice. A clear mind and a basic plan of what you intend to buy are crucial when shopping for car speakers. Big car speakers do not always mean better speakers.

Purchasing speakers for your car can end up being more costly than necessary if you buy speakers that have numerous features you won’t use. Keep in mind that top quality audio speakers cost more than some other brands, but are generally worth the investment. If big car speakers are your preference, make sure you buy a dependable brand name and make certain the speakers will provide you with crystal clear sound.

There are two basic kinds of car stereo speakers: component speakers and full range speakers. Each has advantages and disadvantages. Full range car stereo speakers generally consist of a tweeter, a woofer, and some may be equipped with a midrange or supertweeter. If you want to replace your factory speakers with minimal trouble, full range speakers are your best choice. Full range speakers come in varying sizes and price ranges.

If big car speakers are your preference, you can find full range speakers in almost any size. Component speakers give you the best possible sound quality through their superior design. The typical components include tweeters, separate woofers, and external crossovers. Each of these components is designed to compliment the others. Big car speakers can be part of a component system if you make sure you have all the necessary components.

For those who are serious about their car stereo speakers, a component system will be the best choice. Your sound system will have greater depth and sound more realistic. You can include big car speakers in a component system. Detailed sound and exceptional dynamics are the result of higher quality materials than are normally found in full range speakers.

The question of which are better – small or big car speakers is not a simple one. Big car speakers may be your preference but that will not ensure you of the getting the best sound. Car stereo speakers come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Determining the type of car audio system you want is much more important than the size of speakers you purchase.

Enjoy!

Should I Buy Used Car Audio?

Posted by NSFLM.COM | Car Audio and Video | Tuesday 30 June 2009 6:49 pm

Thanks to modern electronics, we now have, more than ever, multiple options for buying an audio system for our car. We only need to go to an electronics store like Best Buy or Circuit City and find tons of options. Or check the web. There are so many brands to choose from that it may drive you nuts.

So, today it isn?t about what should you buy, but how much money do you have to invest in my car audio. It?s a complex balance between what do you want and what can you really afford, especially if you are an enthusiast of these babies.

Let?s say that you have five hundred dollars. That let?s you buy a decent receiver, an amplifier and a nice set of 4-way speakers. But reality says that you want more. Ok, you may buy this basic kit and save some more money until you have enough dollars to go for a subwoofer or a couple of tweeters with a dedicated amp. The thing is that you may not want to wait one or two years for it.

In that case, you should consider buying an used car audio system. For some men it may be considered as a sacrilege. After all, an audio system is considered by many of us as a physical manifestation of ourselves. It is the mean to make the world know what kind of music we hear.

But relax. You don?t need to be such an extremist with used car audio. First things first. Look for some prices. One of the first places to look on is Ebay. You may find a good price on a complete used car audio kit. Another option is retail stores. Some years ago I found a complete kit: receiver, speakers and amplifiers for 60% of the price. Why? Because the guy who bought it didn?t like how it sounded and spent more money on a more sophisticated system. But for me it was more than enough. This guy?s bad choice was my bliss.

You can also check the classified ads in the newspaper. You will find lot?s of local sellers looking for buyers for their used car audio. Electronics advances very quickly and consumers are so eager to use new technologies, that you will not find a shortage of them.

Finally, try your friends. Maybe they were already considering selling their system but needed a final push to do it. Ask those that have a good sounding system and check how much the same equipment would cost at a store.

At the end, it doesn?t matter which source of used car audio you use, the thing is that you find yourself comfortable with the deal you have made. Not only on the bucks you have saved, but also feeling that your second hand system does sound good after all.

How To Choose A Car Audio Head Unit

Posted by NSFLM.COM | Car Audio and Video | Tuesday 30 June 2009 2:49 pm

There are so many different head units available these days that making an informed decision on which one to buy is a long process. I happen to know that about 99% of people have the same goals:

1. Get a unit with all of the best features. 2. Save money on that unit.

You’re in luck, because that’s what this guide is all about!

A quick note about HYPE:

There are lots of retailers and parties on the internet that would like you to believe certain things about car audio. What is boils down to is that these people really just want to sell you something, and take some of your $$$ with them. When deciding on stereo equipment, it’s best to rely on the advice of neutral parties rather than retailers and marketers. Don’t fall into the trap of information pollution!

OK, then.

When you buy a head unit, basically you are looking for a control system for your entire stereo. You should be sure that whatever unit you buy can handle all of the tasks you want your unit to handle. Some things to think about:

Car Audio Bass By Alpine

Posted by NSFLM.COM | Car Audio and Video | Tuesday 30 June 2009 10:49 am

One Canadian gentleman living in Ottawa and one California-based manufacturer of stereo equipment have together demonstrated how the world has become smaller. After analyzing the information available on the World Wide Web, the Ottawa resident decided to purchase the R Alpine subwoofers, components made by the Alpine Company of Torrance, California. The Canadian wanted to enhance his car audio bass.

Why did a Canadian order a component from a company in California? Details on the R Alpine subwoofer provide part of the answer. The R Alpine subwoofer is made from specially-selected materials. In addition it contains top-quality electrical parts. Most importantly, the R Alpine subwoofer has a Thermal Management feature. The R Alpine subwoofer provides a car owner with an excellent addition to his or her car audio bass system.

Why should any car owner choose to purchase subwoofers with a Thermal Management feature? Knowing the answer to that question requires an understanding of the wiring basics for a car audio system. Let?s review those basics now.

If the subwoofers were wired to the amplifier using a parallel wiring pattern, then the resistance in those subwoofers would be reduced. Of course the reduction in the resistance would lead to an increase in the current passing through each subwoofer. Increased current could cause unwanted heating. A Thermal Management feature limits the chances that such heating could take place. That should explain the benefit of adding R Alpine subwoofers to a car audio bass system.

Now a car audio bass system needs more than subwoofers. It also needs an amplifier. The Canadian who purchased the R Alpine subwoofers also bought an Alpine amplifier. What features in the Alpine amplifier must have caught the attention of the Canadian car owner?

The Alpine amplifier can be adjusted from the head unit. That feature gives the operator of any vehicle equipped with the Alpine amplifier access to custom control and tuning. The Alpine amplifier can offer that feature because it comes with a small interface unit, a unit called KCE-510M. That unit connects the head unit and the amplifier. That unit gives the car owner greater control over the sound quality coming from the car audio bass system.

Mobile Video For Your Car Makes Sense Considering The Traffic These Days?

Posted by NSFLM.COM | Car Audio and Video | Tuesday 30 June 2009 2:49 am

Mobile Video Prices are coming down big time and it makes sense to score your self a new complete system for your car or SUV. The competition is getting hot and now is the time to grab one. Many people who have these video systems no longer complain when they are in the back seat stuck in traffic. Kids are actually a joy to travel with and all these systems are available and installable and some as low as $499 plus installation.

Have you considered a new Mobile Video System for your car? There are about ten very well known brand names and of course some pretty convincing looking Chinese knock-off or pirated patented products slipping into the market as well.

You have sent the seat head rest models and many of these require such little amount or installation that you can be in and out in around an hour or so? I see people lined up to install these at radio shops and having been in the aftermarket auto business on the auto detailing side for some 20 plus years, I wonder why more people are not lined up?

Perhaps it is a trade off with folks as the fuel prices keep going up and seem to be cutting into their expensive taste for toys and accessories. Yet, with the prices coming down, that does not make sense either and I assume people just do not know; so, I thought I might tell you personally. Consider all this in 2006.

A Damagefree Mounting Solution For Your Car

Posted by NSFLM.COM | Car Audio and Video | Monday 29 June 2009 10:49 pm

In a another article, I talked about cradles, ipod kits and Icelink Plus. Now how do you mount them? The best way is to use a damage-free mounting solution. Here, I’ll talk about dashmount brackets.

Dashmount brackets are metal brackets that are designed to help you mount things in your car without damaging the surface. They are vehicle-specific. This means that every car make has dashmount brackets designed specifically for it.You can see a full list here or here.

Usually they go into a vent or the side of the radio or the side of the console near the bottom of the radio — obviously depending on the model. It depends on where it connects to the actual dashboard.

Usually how it works is that you put it in the space specified in the instructions. Using a screw (usually supplied with the dashmount), you can then be sure that everything fits in place securely.

The dashmount comes with a mounting frame that is actually designed with holes in it. Now these are designed so you can easily add a passive cradle, icelink plus or icelink FM.

These are pretty straightforward. They are just metal brackets that save you a lot of time. Add to that, they remove the necessity of drilling holes on your dashboard. That would leave a big mess with holes everywhere apart from the fact that such holes could invalidate your warranty.

Furthermore, If you ever decide to sell your car, you can remove it and no one will ever know you ever had something like that on your dashboard. This will save you money on the long run.

They are robust. However, they are designed to be stylish. So, apart from their functionality, they also look nice. They are designed to look as if they came with your car originally. That’s why they are vehicle-specific. So don’t worry about having a dull-looking lump of metal on your dashboard or wherever else you prefer to have your ipod while driving.

Visit car-audio-products-and-accessories.com to read more or visit ICKD to get your dashmount brackets.

Car Video Back Up And Automotive Visual Systems Considered

Posted by NSFLM.COM | Car Audio and Video | Monday 29 June 2009 6:49 pm

Perhaps you have not been following the new automotive technologies out there these days? We all have seen the back up cameras on large recreational vehicles to assist the driver right? Well now you can get such systems on many high-end luxury cars and SUVs. The car video back up systems are a pretty cool option indeed.

But now some automotive manufacturers are taking this concept to a whole new level. Lexus for instance now has a self-parking video system, so you can set it and allow the car to park itself while you watch on the video to make sure it does it correctly you see? Now some day these kinds of electronic video features will be on all cars and eventually all cars should be able to park themselves.

Imagine this new Lexus car feature on your current car? You drive up set the system and it will parallel park your car all by its self and then you can put on the final touches if it is not totally perfect and it will tell you; This is good. Boy I’ll say give me one of those! Want to learn more about this; here is a link;

http://www.gizmodo.com/gadgets/clips/lexus-self-parking-car-video-and-review-196551.php

You will be seeing much more of these car video and self parking systems in the future and this is only the start. As the number of units that are made go up the prices will come down until some day they will be standard on every car. So, consider this in 2006.

Next Generation Of Mobile Video Considered

Posted by NSFLM.COM | Car Audio and Video | Monday 29 June 2009 2:49 pm

The next generation of mobile car audio with video will be totally incredible and it will soon be here as we are starting to see some of this now. The big boys are on the move and Intel is designing a new chip, which should make all this possible and that means UWB as you drive in your SUV.

UWB stands for Ultra Wide Band wireless technologies and you can imagine the crispness of the images and the speed of the video for future mobile video uses such as video car systems. We are talking about high speed data transfer for the consumer and that means intense images and video along with audio.

Just when you think you could skip the next SEMA show and that you thought you knew it all, look out now, as here comes UWB ready to revolutionize the way we live, work and drive.

The best thing about this is you can have a wireless car with all the video streaming from satellite and then WiFi?ing it throughout the car. Forget tearing up seats and floorboards or buying special head rests, not any more, wireless pure and simple. Can you say load em? up and see ya!

UWB or Ultra Wide Band wireless technologies are just a stone throw away from reality in the market place and you can bet that even Best Buy will have mobile video and audio UWB system link ups available for you to take on the road, anywhere, anytime and any place. Consider all this in 2006.

Sony MEX1GP: The Next Generation Of Car MP3 Players

Posted by NSFLM.COM | Car Audio and Video | Monday 29 June 2009 10:50 am

For all of those MP3 music owners, the future of car audio is finally here for you. Gone are the days where you had to burn your MP3s onto a CD for playback in your car audio system. Sony recently released the MEX-1GP CD receiver, a CD receiver that also features a built-in 1 GB flash memory unit. So now your car audio CD receiver behaves in the same manner as your iPod or other type of MP3 player. The 1 GB flash memory unit can store up to 500 of your favorite songs, giving you plenty of playback time for your music. This little device will make even the longest of trips in your car smoother and more enjoyable, since you will not have to worry about changing CDs any longer.

Aside from playing MP3s, this CD receiver also plays CDs (as the name implies) along with burned CD-Rs and CD-RWs so that those who wish to play their old CDs can still take advantage of this nifty product. However, the real attraction to this new car audio head unit is the MP3 playability. The flash memory unit is located in the detachable faceplate. Here resides the USB port which allows you to connect the faceplate to your PC (similar to your iPod or other MP3 player). Once your faceplate is connected to your CD, you simply drag and drop the MP3 files onto the flash memory unit of the faceplate. Unfortunately the faceplate is only compatible with Windows operating systems, so all of you Mac owners will have to go to your buddy?s house to copy the MP3s to and from the Sony MEX-1GP.

The new receiver is also aesthetically pleasing to the eye as well. It is finished in a high-gloss black color and features a 13-segment LCD display for simple navigation of track and title information. The screen displays album, artist and track name when playing your MP3 music files. Users can shuffle or repeat tracks, albums or personalized groups through controls on the faceplate or with the supplied remote control. The MEX-1GP unit has a built-in 208-watt power amplifier and a three-band equalizer enabling clear, rich sound. The selectable rear/subwoofer preamp outputs, controls the frequency and output level of an external amplifier.

After installing this receiver and experiencing it for a little over a week, I must say that I am quite impressed with this product. For one, the sound quality when playing MP3s through this unit is nothing less than phenomenal. If you didn?t know any better, you would think that you were playing a CD with the crisp and clear playback quality of this head unit. While traveling on a three hour road trip (three hours each way, six hours total) I was able to listen to one selection of songs on the way up and an entirely different selection of songs on the way back, all without the hassle of changing CDs and enduring a pause in play. I?m just a little surprised it took so long for a product like this to hit the market, especially with the increasing popularity of portable MP3 devices such as the iPod over the last several years. While it may have taken awhile for a product like this to hit the market, I?m sure Sony will have plenty of competitors very soon, which will benefit car audio enthusiasts like myself.
